PASS means Peer Assisted Study Sessions, and the aim is to deliver course-based sessions that allow for the support and mentoring of first-year students. Essentially, PASS aims to ease student transition, increase retention and acts as a supplement to the enhancement of their education, through endorsing cross-year engagement. On average, students attending PASS sessions can expect their grades to increase by 10-20% - which is impressive, given the informal nature of the scheme.Though I am currently in the most critical year of my studies, I am also the most serviceable regarding my knowledge base. Therefore, I opted to deliver weekly sessions and regularly liaise with university officials in a debrief. Debriefing is highly beneficial, as it allows for self-reflection and opens the opportunity to discuss which route to take the next session. Not only has PASS allowed me to support students, but it has also instilled the core course knowledge in me.
