Growing up, I took apart anything electrical, fearlessly experimented with a home chemistry set and somehow survived to adulthood. That curiosity and drive still remains although tempered with a little more maturity and perhaps, self-preservation.Today, I excel at making things happen. Whether it is driving strategic change, executing on operational improvements, aligning an organization’s focus with market needs, guiding a project out the door on time, running my own company, or more recently, growing social impact through new approaches to procurement, it's always been about focus and execution. What excites me is the concept of change and more specifically, progress. Working at all levels in an organization, I excel at creating operational and growth strategies, supporting processes, and execution plans built on a foundation of clear messaging, stakeholder focus, and execution discipline. Core to any change is the story of where you need to go and what you need to achieve. In my experience, whether it has been face-to-face engagements with customers, senior management, or my peers, it's all about the story you tell and the results you generate. I own many successes and some equally painful failures. Spoiler Alert: While you do learn more from the failures, the successes are always a lot more fun. Of course, I’m an engineer at heart and love technology. However, while it is a critical element, it is a tool to solve a problem. How does it solve a problem, increase profits, decrease costs, increase impact or expand market reach? They are important questions. Beware the shiny bauble.I consider myself an accidental entrepreneur having ended up where I am now by happenstance. I cannot claim it was part of a larger plan but now that I am here, I am using my marketing, business, and technology experience to the fullest on behalf of my customers and business partners. There's more to come.I am always seeking new opportunities. Think I'm a good fit for your challenge? The custom software development team was evolved from an ad hoc opportunistic group into a well-defined revenue stream that was introduced at pre-sale to help close deals as well as post-sale as a high margin additional revenue opportunity. Senior Product Marketing ManagerZenastra Photonics Jan 2000 - Nov 2001Ottawa, Canada AreaZenastra Photonics was an optical chip start-up. I was the second marketing employee after the VP and consequently, I "owned" everything. More specifically, I was responsible for the product management, marketing activities and initial business development responsibilities. Key successes:> Within 6 months defined market requirements and specifications for our initial product line> Established product roadmap and market segment strategy> Led product and marketing launch including web-based and extensive trade show activities> Led product management and launch of 5 new products in the first year> Co-authored the corporate business plan with a focus on marketing and communications> Managed sales activities including cold calling and sales visits until we hired first sales director> Hired and trained two product/marketing managersI had profit and loss responsibilities for the core products including the full product lifecycle, from gathering requirements, analyzing competitive landscape, writing specification to designing architecture and road maps. I worked closely with senior R&D primes on the definition and specifications of our product line. As the voice of the customer, I worked with external customers (large optical transport players) and translating their needs into financially viable product solutions. This product work was coupled with our external marketing and branding efforts. These efforts required connections across functions with internal stakeholders, such as engineering, program management, marketing, go-to-market, services, sales, learning and operations so that the our product/chip offerings were absorbed quickly by the market. Working in a leading edge development environment as well as being introduced to optical chip manufacturing was fascinating. Zenastra was a blast. Sad to say that Zenastra was a casualty of the 2001 tech meltdown. I learned (painfully) that yield is a very important aspect of the chip business.

Core to this was translating key functionality and benefits into compelling selling points and messages which in turn were confirmed through new and increased sales. As a program manager, I split my time between the strategic sales teams and business units. I developed an intimate understanding of the R&D development cycle and support constraints as we rolled out leading edge products. Newbridge proved to be a fantastic learning experience and truly had one of the best teams that I have ever seen.
