Overseeing Bernstein’s New York Private Client business, Len drives the success of clients and their Bernstein advisors by using the analytical, problem-solving, and fiduciary mindset from 30+ years’ experience as General Counsel of the former Sanford C. Bernstein, lawyer in private practice, and business leader. We advise successful families, business owners, entertainers, athletes, corporate executives, and anyone else who bears the burdens of complexity that come with the benefits of substantial wealth.Len's reliance on deep research and analysis was initially cultivated during two summers at the Brookings Institution and later as a member of the Columbia Law Review. From there, litigating entertainment, securities, and First Amendment cases positioned him to thoughtfully embrace subsequent challenges—whether expanding Bernstein’s distinctive capabilities for international clients, leading multi-generational and charitable wealth transfer planning, or establishing our firm-wide Sports, Media, and Entertainment Group. Now, as he leads the New York office—rolling up his sleeves to work side by side with advisors in an exciting spirit of collaboration—he inspires an optimal working environment to achieve superior results for clients. An important component of this commitment to excellence—and to others—is his drive to support the work that our advisors do beyond the firm’s offices. Their experience in advising on what matters most to clients, including philanthropy, is based on their involvement in the community at the deepest levels—in causes relating to the arts, education, politics, the environment, the LGBT community, and women, among others. He, too, serves on the board of a major women’s health organization, inspired by the human rights work of his eldest daughter who recently graduated from medical school; and he is a member of the Professional Advisory Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Professional Advisor Council of Lincoln Center, and the board of the Columbia Law School Association.What drives Len is working with and for others—for his team, the firm, and our clients.
