At Charles University, I study how to manage farmland and other non-forest habitats to protect their biodiversity. For this purpose, I often survey birds and analyze trends in their communities because birds reflect the state of the whole ecosystem. I see the meaning of my work primarily in connecting science, nature conservation and environmental education. That is why I also work for the NGO Beleco where we make real changes in the landscape - restore disappearing steppes and pastures, maintain habitat diversity, help dozens of endangered species and last but not least, involve the general public in nature protection.
