Delighted to be nominated by students for Golden Apple Award 2017/18 and again in 2018/19 for 'exceptional teaching' and then, in my second year of teaching, to be appointed as a staff member in the School of Creative Arts and Industries. In 2023/2024 I produced and led a workshop for postgraduate students on the MA in Media, Communications and PR. Drawing on my experience working for BBC.com and Wall Street Journal Europe, the session explained How to connect effectively with English-speaking international media.

BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism degree: I teach a new Story-finding module for which I've created a purposeful and engaging mix of classroom learning and experience of professional assignments — including attending a press conference and Crown Court. The module is designed to help first year students develop the mindset of a journalist. I also teach an empowering two-year course in Politics, Law and Ethics, helping students understand how the UK works, their legal rights and responsibilities as journalists and how to pursue their role thoughtfully and professionally.In the Introduction to Journalism module for first years, I help students to explore the achievements of journalists past and present — and also to consider in an informed way how they might shape their own future in the media world. BA (Hons) Creative and Professional Writing degree:I guided first years through a series of workshops in which they produced original journalism and tackled copywriting and ghost-writing assignments.

My original stories for BBC.com and their worldwide audience of 101 million monthly are some of the most-shared ever content for BBC Worklife (formerly Capital) and BBC Britain. I focus now on the art of communicating, as well as on finding fascinating new angles on British life and history. My specialist interest is communications skills — from the poor use of English by native speakers working internationally to the power of silence — and I write regularly for the BBC on this subject.

A fully qualified Chartered Institute of Linguists translator and interpreter, I translate mainly for Reader's Digest International. They appreciate my expertise with headlines and dialogue and my flair for translating humour — especially that of French comedian and regular columnist Anne Roumanoff.

Based in Paris, I filed regular interviews and cover stories to Wall Street Journal Europe's weekend section. The stories all arose from my own original pitches. In 2010 I was delighted to be asked to pen Wall Street Journal Europe's Christmas essay. I also wrote for The Guardian, Independent on Sunday, Reader's Digest International, Metropolitan, Evening Standard, She, Woman and Home, Living Abroad — mainly on French culture, current affairs and lifestyle but with an occasional article on my homeland of Scotland.

While living in Paris and south-west France I was European Life columnist, taking a lateral look at current events, arts and lifestyle. It was signed Lennox Morrison, with a prestigious WSJ portrait by-line. I also wrote many cover features for Weekend Journal and penned a Christmas essay.

Known as Scotland's answer to Lynn Barber, I interviewed leading figures such as Nicola Sturgeon and Gordon Brown, Kirsty Young and Paul Smith, Princess Anne and Ann Widdecombe.I investigated family connections in Scottish politics and the rising generation of Scottish Nationalists. I also penned a punchy weekly column on political and cultural issues, signed Margaret Morrison.

Working with editors Martin Clarke (now publisher Mail, Mail Online and Metro) and Ramsay Smith (now executive director Media House Intl), I was responsible for commissioning and editing features and comment for the Scottish Daily Mail and also wrote for the Daily Mail in London. I did much of the writing myself, including producing news features and ghosting comment from leading figures in politics, science, industry and the military – to on-the-day deadlines.I penned a weekly column, The Voice of Scottish Women, signed Margaret Morrison. For successive Edinburgh Festivals I produced 12-page festival supplements, coming up with the ideas for interviews, features and previews, then commissioning and editing freelance contributions. Working with the picture editor and sub-editors I oversaw the whole process through to publication.

Working on location in France, Germany and Portugal, I researched and presented three seven-part series of current affairs and lifestyle show Scottish International, made by Lomond Television. I was associate producer for Lorraine Kelly on the social issues magazine Live Issue.I was researcher and on-screen reporter for the social issues magazine Scottish Action.All these shows were broadcast prime time on Scottish Television.
