Learning Insights is an independently owned psychology practice offering evaluations (to institutions, such as adoption agencies, schools, courts, foster care agencies) and assessments (to children, teens, and adults). We specialize in diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and dyslexia. All services are offered by highly experienced psychologists who practice the values of reverence, quality, fairness, integrity, excellence, and hope.

Taught a graduate level course in psychological assessment to clinical psychology students.

Assisted Family Court judges in making decisions that are in the best interest of the child.

Worked together with others who shared the dream of cultivating a psychologically healthy community in the beautiful Hudson Valley.

Supervised mental health staff and interns who annually served over 500 children between birth and age five across Dutchess County in a nationally-recognized Head Start/Early Head Start program. Conducted or supervised more than 1,000 preschool psychological evaluations. Oversaw a postpartum depression project where 85% of the 125 women improved. Co-directed a preschool day treatment program that resulted in statistically significant behavioral and social improvements and more than a 99% reduction in the number of physical holds used over a 10-year period. Also pioneered the Great Halloween Candy Exchange, a countywide partnership designed to battle the childhood obesity problem, and obtained more than $525,000 in grants.

Assisted ambitious, self-driven undergraduate student in designing independent study advanced psychology courses.

Directed alternative school and coordinated district-wide special education program for students with high emotional and/or behavioral needs. Supervised psychology staff district wide. Developed resource directory. Obtained grant funding. Conducted psychological evaluations. Learned a lot about working in a mostly rural, mostly Hispanic community in Texas.

In this setting, I had the privilege of working with my esteemed colleague, Dr. David A. Crenshaw, Ph. D., RPT-S. I provided play therapy and family therapy in our Poughkeepsie, NY location.

In this capacity, I worked for various public school districts on a part-time or per diem basis, conducting IEP counseling, psychological evaluations, teacher consultations, and/or CSE reviews.

Taught undergraduate psychology courses, including those designed especially for education majors.

Provided individual and family therapy, one day a week, in this large, exciting Putnam County, NY practice.

Taught undergraduate courses in educational psychology.

Worked collaboratively with Dr. Ellen Gagne, gifted teacher and author of Cognitive Psychology of School Learning.

In this project, I carried out scientific experiments to determine what kinds of learning strategies worked best in helping students remember new information. This experience has helped me know first hand what stratetegies are most effective for encoding and retrieving informaton. This knowledge gets incorporated into my teaching style and helps me teach others how to use these strategies in their own lives.
