About Leo Cole

My expertise is in advising top executives and boards on how to succeed. I have specialized in cybersecurity and, as a go-to-market guru, have led many companies through successful transformations. In the last 4 years, I've been vCISO for hospitals and helped early stage companies with go-to-market strategies.At The Venture Build, I am focused on helping early stage companies create and execute go-to-market strategies. Creating the right sales and marketing approach can make or break an early stage company.As a cybersecurity expert, I have seen how the role of a CISO is changing and that it is not just configuring a firewall but communicating business risks to stakeholders. Over the past thirty years, I have been driving meaningful change. All my successes are team successes as we worked together to achieve great things. I am proud of the transformations I led and the mergers and acquisitions that strengthened the companies' and employees' lives for the better. Many of those who worked for me have gone on to C-level roles of their own. Outside of work, you will find me involved with sports and spending time outdoors. I follow the Syracuse Orange and the Texas Longhorns closely. A life highlight for me was having a beer with Paul Newman and listening to stories about fishing with his daughter in Alaska. Accomplishments: 1. Transformed Trustwave from a PCI company to a Managed Security Services company leading to an acquisition by Singtel for $810M. 2. Transformed Websense from a Web Filtering company to a high-growth market leader in web security, growing revenue from $100M to $350M and selling for approximately $1B. 3. Transformed IBM's Systems Management division into a market leader with the acquisition of Tivoli and subsequently in security by creating the combined Identity and Access Management market. During my tenure, we grew revenue from a few hundred million to over $1.5B.
