I am currently an R&D scientist at Watchmaker Genomics, working in the enzyme engineering group. Watchmaker Genomics is a start-up molecular biology company that applies advanced enzymology to enable breakthrough applications for the reading, writing, and editing of DNA and RNA. The company combines deep domain expertise in protein engineering with large-scale enzyme manufacturing to address the demanding quality, performance, and scale requirements of high-growth clinical genomics applications.Prior to my current role, I was an M.Sc. student in the Molecular and Cell Biology department at the University of Cape Town. My research project was focused on studying gene regulatory proteins in humans and the malaria parasite, with the goal of informing future rational drug design. I studied intrinsically disordered regions of transcription factors and their role in biomolecular condensation, using a combination of bioinformatic, in vitro biochemical and wide-field/confocal microscopy techniques.
