About Leo Quintanar

As a child, I admired physicists/researchers since they seek discoveries and ways to improve the world. Their training in problem-solving enables them to do this. My path to this career began during the summer of my middle school year by attending Moorpark community college. After graduation, I matriculated to California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) to assist my mentor in setting up a laser lab. As a way of improving my problem-solving skills, I studied Electronics, Electro-optics, and Physics; I even explored Python and Matlab for automated experiments. It was a Matlab-based course on computer vision that taught me more about computer vision than any other class I've taken. One of my group projects received the best poster award during the poster presentation at CSUCI. In my undergrad research, I followed my mentor's dreams of measuring hysteresis of polymer bridges under stress. This experiment implemented 16 laser diodes and 16 photo-diodes connected to op-amps being recorded through a raspberry pi micro-controller. My desire to improve my problem-solving skills motivated me to matriculate at California State University Northridge (CSUN) for my master's degree, where the new condensed matter/materials program was being offered. The new program investigated the dynamics of ultra-fast exciton, which included both training at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and setting up an ultra-fast pump-probe. The results produced a 1000 x 1000 matrix containing Change of Absorbance, time-delay, and wavelength. Based on my experience in Python and the resources about machine learning, I developed a script to regress the time-delay in accordance with the temporal proximity, then created a parallel Matlab script analyzing the results. In my resume, I list both my publication in the journal of chemistry and the title of my thesis.
