And the final whistle blew, we had delivered! We had won the league after 8 tough months. Victory was sweet, but the journey was occasionally sour. Filled with bitter losses in the years before the victory, I learned many things. how to lead, how to follow the lead, be gracious in loss and be humble in Victory. For all the stud marks, broken noses, fractured thumbs, gone hamstrings and tears I realise one thing about Rugby, it is nothing in comparison to life. Life will give you a beating like no other. But if you work as a team, I mean, truly work as a team, you will overcome. It may take you some time but you will overcome. Wildly different characters, varied skills, multiple weaknesses, selection of strengths but one vision. One vision that unites you all as a team.Transferring knowledge and skills from the rugby pitches to the office was a fun and exciting Journey. Fast forward 18 months and what do we have at WestPoint, a bunch of developers that can play rugby? Nope. What we have is a team, a solid team of people, who are hard working, respectful, loyal, committed and growing as individuals. We dont hire developers. We hire real life humans and help them grow into great engineers and even greater people. Our training at WestPoint allows our team to learn how to handle setbacks, mistakes, discouragement, respect, time keeping and communication, and thats all before they learn how to be great developers. We started WestPoint with a vision to build a great Software team but we always knew that this would only be achievable with the right players.
