Leon is an experienced leader in the non-profit and charitable sectors, and a strong advocate for people with disabilities. He works with many individuals, community groups and agencies to reduce barriers to everyday living for all people with disabilities, but particularly those with hearing loss. He is a strong proponent of the Servant Leadership Philosophy, and believes strongly in the principle that helping others to be successful helps our places of work and our communities to be better and more supportive, particularly for those that need help. He believes in life-long learning, loves the power of online learning and facilitates such a course with the Certified Association Executive (CAE) Program offered by the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE). He also believes that associations should be constantly striving to become and stay High Performance Associations (HPA) to serve their members, clients, stakeholders and communities as much as possible. To help his association achieve that goal, he led the drive to earn Accreditation for his association from the Imagine Canada Standards Program (the only association in NL to earn this designation to date), and is a past member of the Imagine Canada Standards Council of which he was a member for six years. He is always open to new ideas, learning and opportunities to grow and become better, both for himself, his staff and volunteers, his association, and his community (he is a member of the St. John's Rotary Club and the Naturals Group of Rotary).
