About Leon R. K.

A first perspective and interest in politics and international relations occurred to me in 2012 when I interviewed the former President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, for the German youth magazine Dein Spiegel. Hereby, I gained initial impressions of the high importance and dynamics between prominent individual actors and states existent in the international system. A school internship at the international law firm DLA Piper helped me understand the legal foundations. My Bachelors degree in History and International Relations familiarised me with a plethora of political theories, ideas and ideologies, whilst providing me the crucial historical context in modern times. This lead me to develop an enhanced interest in the matter of security, both on the national and international level. I therefore chose to pursue a Masters degree in Crisis and Security Management, which I have recently successfully completed. I am now eager to apply all the acquired knowledge and skills to internships/jobs, so feel free to reach out to me.

In the 2020/21 academic year I was elected to be one of the undergraduate class representatives for level 3 history. This task involved acting as a HR mediator bridging the gap between the history students in various courses and the university faculty teaching staff. Students could approach me about concerns and feedback about their learning experience, which I could then transfer to the professors. We had student-staff liaison conferences in which I acted as a representative formal history students to address these issues and find a solution together with the teachers.
  • Model United Nations

    The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands
As part of a extra-curricular programme I joined the Model United Nations team and worked as a delegate for UNIDO in the Environmental Commission in The Hague. The process took several months preparation of team work with fellow school mates in order to come up with a joint resolution that could be proposed at the conference in March 2017 in The Hague. In this educational and academic simulation of the UN I managed to successfully acquire diplomatic decision-making skills. At the conference I collaborated closely with other delegates from all over the world in order to achieve a consensus on the issue of sustainability in the modern world. I contributed an important part to the resolution that was eventually passed.

As part of an internship programme available at my school to gain experience in the field of law, I worked at the Hamburg office of the prestigious multinational law firm DLA Piper as an assistant. Throughout the internship the lawyers trusted me with translating testimonies and other evidence from German into English and vice versa. I was also responsible for setting up tables digitally in Excel, copying documents as well as transporting crucial documents from the law firm to court in order to assist the lawyers.
  • Der Spiegel

Given my language skills and interest in politics, I conducted journalistic work for and was chosen by the German youth magazine Dein Spiegel to hold an interview for with the former president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso for their newest issue.
