Project Manager

Current

HipGraphics was a small OEM manufacturer that developed software for interactive medical imaging. We created a series of medical imaging products for Siemens Medical Systems: 3D Virtuoso, RT3D, InSpace, InSpace Anywhere, syngo.via WebViewer, and Syngo MobileViewer. • Worked with customer (Siemens) to define project specifications, timelines and milestones. Development methodology was formally the V-model (Waterfall), as required by Siemens/FDA/EMA. Internally we were running Agile-ly. • Created, modified and directed project plans in negotiation with customer to meet contracted targets. Released to Siemens 11 versions of our “syngo” products; all releases were on time. • Authored software quality management plan, engineering requirements, risk analyses, functional specifications, release approvals, release notes, and other project documents. • Facilitated communication between internal team and customer. Was contact for Siemens to report defects during their module and systems testing. Their reports were often highly underspecific, leading to failed attempts to replicate, requiring investigation to find out what they were actually doing. • Reviewed safety-critical C++ code. • Performed unit, module, and systems testing. • Authored Software Cybersecurity Management Plan. As it established, authored a cybersecurity monitoring plan for each subsequent release. Monitored, analyzed and documented cybersecurity vulnerabilities and managed project response when necessary. • Authored Digital Documents addendum to Software Quality Management Plan. This was needed to formally transition HipGraphics to paperless operations, which was needed starting at the COVID-19 lockdown. Going paperless allowed HipGraphics to leave its office space, saving $12000/month in rent.

Nov 2019 - Present

Software Engineer

• Started up HipGraphics. Finished first product, 3D Virtuoso, on time as per contract. 3D Virtuoso was the first sub-$200000 medical imaging workstation capable of interactive volume rendering. • Created and maintained C++ code libraries for series of medical image rendering programs. All code was maintained under CVS version control. • Created and maintained patient browser, a standalone GUI application used to select data from a medical image database and perform various tasks on it. • Created and maintained “bookmark” browser, allowing users to save and restore the full renderer state via a GUI. • Taught Siemens-sponsored courses on the use of our InSpace software once or twice yearly. InSpace was a big success, with $19 million in sales over 10 years. InSpace was popular with radiologists and is still in use. • Created and maintained a web browser based administrative client for WebViewer product using Google Web Toolkit. WebViewer was among the earliest client/server medical imaging programs capable of interactive volume rendering. • Authored engineering requirements, functional specifications, test specifications, release notes, and other project documents. • Performed unit, module, and systems testing. • Fixed bugs as necessary; during official testing reported bugs and fixes using GNATS (an automated bug tracking system).

Jul 1997 - Nov 2019

System Administrator

• Administered systems for the Advanced Laboratory Workstation (ALW) project at the National Institutes of Health. ALW provided file service, including numerous applications, to a community of over 600 users and 300 workstations distributed widely across NIH.• Supported users directly via ALW's Program Trouble Report (PTR) system. Responsible for dispatching all incoming PTRs.• Maintained the system's central file servers, monitoring and running the backup system.• Responsible for adding, deleting, and modifying all ALW user accounts.• Load balanced all file servers.• Responsible for file systems backup; performed volume restoration when requested by ALW staff or users.• Wrote or improved many scripts used in the backup system and for server maintainance.
