Soon after his retirement from the military, having appointed by the government as Director General Disaster management performed the stressful and strenuous responsibility to his utmost best and to the satisfaction of the nation until the termination of his contract period. Being a disaster management professional he possesses vast knowledge and experience in the disaster risk management. As DG DMC participated in various international and national conferences, seminars, workshops initiated by UNISDR (United Nations International Strategy For Disaster Reduction) and other international organizations where he represented his country in the capacities of chairman, co-chair and panelist on several occasions. Disasters are the emerging threats in the contemporary world to those specially public and private sector organizations in their progressive development.

A senior retired infantry Army officer having an illustrious military carrier behind his 34 years unblemished service belongs to Gemunu regiment one of the fighting arms of Sri Lanka Army, proudly carries both presidents and regimental colours. Actively participated in most of the military campaigns and major operations conducted against LTTE separatist terrorism in the past. He has proved his mettle in the field having given leadership to every successive command until he capped it up with successfully commanding two of biggest formations namely security forces commander Jaffna and Security forces commander Mullaitivu. He takes pride in becoming the first decorated officer from the Tri-forces in displaying a gallantry act against the LTTE terrorists which was ultimately instrumental in getting the gallantry award system introduced into security forces. His exemplary conduct and outstanding performance in the field at the same time sheer commitments shown towards his duties brought more colour into his service in the forms of awards/orders/decorations/medals numbering total of 14 during his service. Some of the prestigious training institutions where he attended will bear testimony and speaks volumes for his vast knowledge in the diversified security threats being post towards this contemporary world.
