I am a reliability expert with keen interest in the application of reliability statistics, the physics of failure approach, proactive design reliability evaluations, failure analysis, and reliability test design and implementation. In my formative years I worked as a component engineer in charge of quality and reliability analysis for electronic components and assemblies. I gained skills in the development and application of statistical analysis tools for quality and reliability analysis. Developed failure analysis and hardware engineering skills. Later on I worked as a research engineer, using the scientific method and the physics of failure approach to research unknown electronic component behaviors (in new component technologies), and to identify the root cause of failures (field failures). I worked as the Lead Reliability Engineer for Illumina, which is the industry leader in DNA sequencing equipment. I collaborated with multiple organizations to define and implement a corporate reliability program. I provided consulting services to program development teams to de-risk design selections (Design for Reliability) and help them with the assessment, design, and implementation of accelerated test needs (Test for Reliability). I supported the analysis of fleet reliability data using time dependent reliability techniques (Monitor for Reliability). Finally, I provided general training in best-in-class reliability practices and tools, and established and managed the reliability physics laboratory.I am currently the Reliability Engineering Manager for Google Cloud, where I lead a great team of reliability professionals in supporting system level reliability needs for Google’s massive hardware fleet: from networking devices and servers, to state of the art machine learning systems.Specialties: Quality and reliability engineering, statistical analysis, failure analysis, microscopy, Digital Image Correlation, and electrical contacts. Design and implementation of accelerated stress tests. Accelerated life test data and system level reliability analysis. Application of the scientific method to solve complex issues. Development and implementation of corporate reliability program. Reliability leadership and mentoring. Field failure trends monitoring. Proactive design analysis.
