Primarily based in Coleford, Gloucestershire, I manage 2 brand aligned technical teams (UK & Spain) within Suntory Beverage & Food Europe R&D. These teams cover Analytical Chemistry and Microbiology functions underwriting the Technical shelf life of products within the NPD pipeline.I am responsible for coordination of the two teams in terms of strategy and also deliver technical expertise to stakeholders within Manufacturing Quality, Supply Chain, Packaging and to NPD colleagues.

• Responsible for the Microbiology Strategy for Research & Development to aid NPD projects• Development of External networks to facilitate collaborative projects supporting both R&D and manufacturing strategy• Provision of microbiology support for NPD of Global Nutritional Brands including Sports and Energy Beverages, Powders, Bars and Supplements• Thermal process design for new products within Functional beverages category• Microbiology product specification and sampling design for all product categories• Approved Microbiology Method implementation • Microbiological Risk Assessments• Micro training support for NPD and manufacturing teams• HACCP program implementation• SALSA accreditation support for the Development Kitchen• Operational & Technical Support for manufacturing• Trouble shooting microbiology and other technical issues for Global Manufacturing team• Complaint sample monitoring and investigation• Project lead for NPD projects and Value Engineering projects including validation for product transfer/introduction• Line Management of the microbiology team

• Compliance testing of food, water & pharmaceutical samples • Involvement in Campden member funded research projects• Consultancy enquiries on all aspects of microbiology including product specifications, processing parameters, food poisoning & spoilage enquiries.• Factory visits and audits as part of technical and microbiological trouble shooting• Lecturer on range of Campden microbiology and thermal processing training courses• Course Co-ordinator for European Commission DG Trade funded microbiology training contract for technicians from developing countries. • Event director for Campden microbiology conferences including Rapid Method Meetings, Hot Topics etc

• D value and z value determination in order to design or validate aseptic processing, sterilisation or pasteurisation processes• The conduct of biological process validation work to establish the efficacy of industrial processes in situ in order to ensure food safety• To assess the conduct of cooling practices within the food industry via consultancies/audits or validation work• Challenge testing and shelf-life testing of new products• Factory audits & product assessment as part of trouble shooting• Lecturing on training courses and seminars • Responsibility for media production and staff, QC and waste management
