Profile bio

About Leonie Williams

I am an industrious Project Leader, Environmental Scientist and Hydrogeologist who manages, promotes and develops creative and engaging solutions to resolve issues facing private and public agencies working in the water sector. What I want you all to know about my work self:I like to be challenged and have a passion and drive to make a difference in the work that I do.I like to have my finger on the pulse of issues facing my industry and love a good conversation about these challenges with anyone that will listen. I am continuously learning from the people I interact with in my working world about my industry and am energised by other people’s passion to address these. I am also very much a team player-I thrive in dynamic team environments and enjoy the journey not just the destination (especially the banter of ideas at the inception of a project) to lead the delivery of work from start to finish.I am inspired by people who are passionate about something bigger than themselves, no matter the discipline, and their drive to make a difference. I enjoy hearing different points of view on issues, this helps me broaden my perspective on the challenges I may face in my personal and professional life and keeps me on my toes. I am an avid reader, researcher and have done a lot of traveling in my life to date. This is because I enjoy learning about people in their environments and how their cultural, political and social backgrounds influence how they see the world. I spent a good chunk of my earlier career working to improve access to reliable water supplies in remote indigenous communities on-ground in Northern Australia and then more recently leading projects to address water supply issues with farmers in the Murray Darling Basin. This gave me an appreciation for the complexities faced by water authorities in meeting the needs of the business and its stakeholders in the face of complex environmental, political, social, economic and cultural constraints. I also had the privilege to see some amazing sunrises and sunsets. From these experiences I have learned that the meaning of water and access to it can vary across different disciplines and jurisdictions but one thing is clear- we all know that we (and the environment) can’t survive without it and therefore people are willing to work together to preserve the integrity of it, and that’s something I want a to be a part of.

Listed skills include Water Quality, Hydrology, Water Management, Water Resources, and 26 others.
