About Leonila Guglya
I am passionate about the inner logic of international trade and master it on the global (WTO), regional and national levels, having worked on 5 continents and several dozens of jurisdictions, mostly in an advisory role. I collaborate with governments in shaping negotiations strategies, assist them in the targeted building of trade-related capacities, in succeeding through the WTO TPR, and in engaging in the WTO accessions, assess national legal and policy frameworks (and their implementation) against varied set and future thresholds, and carry out a multitude of other tasks, which elaboration, implementation, or compliance with trade rules might require. Lately, I frequently contribute to projects focusing on e-commerce and paperless trade. Before the deep dive into trade, I was paving my way through international private / business law, commercial and investment arbitration, with a particular enthusiasm towards resolving inter-jurisdictional overlaps and recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. I am slowly getting back on this particular [familiar] track now. My thirst for research resulted in two doctoral (a PhD. and an SJD) degrees, both “summa cum laude”. One - in international trade, and the other – in international arbitration. I continue searching, writing, and occasionally trying my luck with journal and conference submissions. Having myself “mooted” four times, I am also judging such competitions (namely, Jackson Moot and W. C. Vis International Arbitration Moot). Finally, I systematically teach law. I deliver in English, French, Russian and Ukrainian and am based in Geneva. I am a resilient believer in hard work, lifelong learning (by doing, among other options), fairness, humbleness, and in making the world a better place to the extent of one's abilities (as pragmatically as this sounds). I keep myself updated about the latest developments in the areas of my professional interest to ensure the highest quality of the work that I do.Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you think that we could put our forces together on anything falling within my focus areas, or if I could be useful in brainstorming over, designing, or implementing your projects.
Listed skills include International Law, International Arbitration, Dispute Resolution, Commercial Litigation, and 15 others.
