Dr. Leon Pietschmann (Ph.D., University of Cambridge) is a management consultant and expert for immersive and emerging technologies at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). With a particular focus on AR/VR/XR, spatial computing, and metaverse topics, he thrives as the intersection of technical innovation and strategy. As a core member of BCG’s XR expert group, he guides global clients through the strategic and operational aspects of these transformative technologies.With over 7 years of experience, Leon has worked on a variety of projects related to DeepTech, Innovation & Change Management, Manufacturing, Operational Efficiency, and Sustainability. His longstanding passion for entrepreneurship led him to launch his own startup, an award-winning digital services company focusing on data-driven services for the mobility sector. While he exited his company in 2019, he continues to be involved in the entrepreneurship community as a mentor for various hackathons and startup programs, such as HackHarvard, MIT Reality Hack, and the Harvard Grid. Leon was a researcher at Harvard and Cambridge, where he earned a PhD in Engineering centred around human-computer interaction and industrial applications of AR/VR technology. Additionally, he holds an MPhil in Engineering and Management from the University of Cambridge, as well as a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). For 15+ years now, Leon has been serving the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), a governmental organisation for civil protection and humanitarian aid. He held multiple key positions, including roles as an ICT-Expert for global UN missions and as platoon leader for large emergency response teams. This enabled him to develop strong teamwork and leadership skills, as well as a hands-on approach to problem-solving in time-critical situations.
