Turn me loose on a group of human beings and I´ll start telling stories. Stories about the wonders of the natural environment, but also about the perils in which humanity has placed spaceship earth. As a trained geologist I am aware of the periodically turbulent history of our planet. I should have worked for an oil company, but decided otherwise. An intimate connection with the natural environment triggered a different career path. A path along which I decided to share my stories of nature to attempt to re-incorporate the natural environment into the ´in-group´ of fellow human beings – where it belongs. After a 30+ year career in nature management and environmental education on Curacao my family and I moved to the Netherlands where, after a brief but exciting period at Ordina, I joined Landschap Erfgoed Utrecht in the role of ecological advisor. This opportunity allowed the reactivation of my passion for Geographical Information Systems! I am now part of a super-exciting GIS-based monitoring project in the Province of Utrecht. Based on fieldwork efforts of 80+ knowledgeable and driven volunteers we are committed to monitor the health and quality of small landscape elements within the agricultural landscape. Elements that are essential requirements for survival of a significant part of biodiversity in the Netherlands.
