Investigating how new technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence) can help to reduce poverty in South Limburg. This project is planned and executed by an interdisciplinary team of students from Maastricht University. The collaboration of students coming from different educational and cultural background yields innovative solutions. Students act as consultants for Accenture and more specifically, the Accenture Innovation Center for Smart Services in Heerlen. PREMIUM is Maastricht University’s Honours programme for high-performing, motivated master’s students. Once selected, students are grouped together in interdisciplinary teams and given a project to complete for a client from the (local) business or government sector under the guidance of a project mentor. Alongside their project, students receive individual coaching focused on personal competence development. Lastly, students attend several workshops to help cultivate valuable skills and knowledge to prepare them for the job market.

The tutorial groups are an important element of the Problem Based Learning method used at Maastricht University. The faculty will select and approach students for the tutor training and tutor positions, there is no sollicitation procedure for open tutoring positions. My duties as a student assistant at the Chair and Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics were plentiful. I participated in several projects and did MS-office work which allowed me to foster my MC-office skills. Moreover, working with people coming from different educational backgrounds, ranging from engineers to psychologists, enlarged my horizon. Likewise, it stimulated my interest to develop my expertise in other areas next to psychology.

During my internship at the Chair and Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics, I participated in several projects under the guidance of a Work and Organisational Psychologist. For instance, I was involved in the creation and implementation process of an assessment center for the company “Continental”.Furthermore, I participated in another project which concerned the development of a plan on how to implement driver assistance systems into the regular driver license training. In this regard, our team came about several innovative approaches such as the use of nudges to guarantee and ease the use of assistance systems.
