Leon Skillz is a spectaculary talented, professional artist, with a great passion for tattooing. Hailing from the streets of Maywood, Illinois, he mastered many other artistic skills, such as drawing, gymnastics, and playing percussion instruments. He has always been interested in art since he was a child watching his older brother and father create some of the most unforgettable drawings of everything from futuristic gym shoes to opulent mansions. In 2002, Leon Skillz and close friend Mark-Anthony Marshall started MADDSKILLZ INK where they specialized in personalized graphic designs, airbrush, sketch portraits and logos. In 2008, Skillz ran into a childhood friend named Elliot Hall, and was introduced to the world of tattoo artistry. After researching the history of tattoos, he started to pursue a career in tattooing in 2009. Being one of very few Left-handed Tattooless Artists, Skillz strives to deliver only freehand custom ink artwork, which provides an impressive, encouraging and very positive experience for his diverse clientele. This trust his clients has in him, has allowed Skillz to exercise uninhibited creativity and grow a vast cache of original art work. Skillz has experience with many tattooing styles, such as creative cover ups, revamping old tattoos, traditional, foreign, very small/detailed, color blends and grayscale. He makes a constant effort to specialize in all tattooing styles. “I believe you can never stop growing and increasing your skills as an artist. Inactivity leads to laziness in one’s art. Therefore, I strive to actively seek out any and all opportunities to better myself and my skills as a tattoo artist,” says Skillz. The variety of techniques and practices he uses has enabled him to develop as a well-rounded artist.Aside from tattooing, he enjoys listening to Smooth Jazz, Chill Vibe Music, watching movies, and spending time with his daughter, a middle schooler who is also an amazing artist, just like her father and late grandfather.
