About Leontyne Wan
Hi! I'm a Game Writer/Narrative Designer and Screenwriter who is passionate about creating interactive and dynamic stories that are sincere, honest, and full of heart. I love writing interactive stories that are centered around emotion and focused on player experience. Above all, I care about creating nuanced, innovative stories that connect with players. I have a lifetime of experience writing stories and playing video games. I incorporate my life experience and the intersection of my personal identities into my storytelling. I'm a strong advocate for creating diverse stories centered around BIPOC characters and the LGBTQIAP+ community. I believe that specificity in a character’s background and story only adds to a narrative’s relatability. Players and readers are hard-wired to emphasize with characters if a story resonates with them, regardless of direct commonalities. I’m drawn to writing about themes of family, (mis)communication, love, friendship, identity, regret, names, language gaps, cultural differences, traveling, freedom, independence, loneliness, nostalgia, coming of age, the immigrant experience, and the Chinese American diaspora. I'm especially fond of hopeful stories about queer women discovering and loving themselves. Stories about strength and resilience are powerful, but sometimes they feel most meaningful when combined with hope.I love making new friends and building new relationships, so if you're interested in talking, send me a message! I'm always excited to talk to people that have similar passions, especially if it’s something a little niche. About my background:I've grown up writing stories and playing video games since childhood. Video games, mobile games, and visual novels are my favorite medium for storytelling. While studying Creative Writing at Knox College, I wrote multiple video game scripts, screenplays, short stories, and poems. I also provided other writers with feedback in workshops and copy edited their writing. I was Co-Editor-in-Chief of Quiver Genre Magazine at Knox College in 2018-2019 and I have 6 years of experience working on a literary magazine (Quiver and Calliope). I'm a thorough editor with 4 years of teaching experience. I love providing writers with feedback and encouraging them to create meaningful stories that they enjoy.I also love...● my cats, Mario and Luigi● board games, escape rooms, and dungeons & dragons● genre fiction, psychology books, and Marie Kondo's novels● romcoms and psychological thrillers ● romance and fantasy anime and manga● ballet and tennis
