As the Test Automation Architect for Evolent's HPS Aldera CORE system, I'm responsible for all technical aspects of the testing automation system. I created an infrastructure conducive to the rapid development and execution of automated test scripts. This not only included the development of Java code but also the breakdown of the application into business objects that facilitated the encapsulation of functions within them.I developed a method that made it easy for SMEs to create their own test cases. Shifting this task from automation engineers to more knowledgeable team members resulted in more insightful tests.I designed the system to be self-checking. Every time there is a screen interaction, there is a potential for something to go awry. So every step in my automation system is checked for success or failure. There is no point on continuing the execution when the steps have fallen out of sync. This self-checking mechanism allows me to create metrics for places where there is a potential for something to go wrong.I use a database table to drive which scripts get executed. When you have a suite of test scripts that can run for hours, it is handy to have a mechanism to only execute the test cases that are necessary. I created logic that allows only the active scripts to be executed.I created a process where a single script --or a group of scripts-- can be executed from Jenkins.And many other tasks related to the successful implementation of a testing automation solution. The deployment of a framework does not guarantee the success of the project. The framework must support the business in both processes and expected deliverables. The architecture I developed at Evolent gives us just that.
