I studied Law at Leiden University in The Netherlands. During my studies I specialised in Law and ICT. After the completion of my studies I worked as a computer programmer for Philips and BSO (Atos). I then pursued my career at the Center for Computers and Law at Erasmus University in Rotterdam where I worked as a researcher and assistant professor.After Erasmus I started working for Tilburg University where I worked for 14 years as a researcher at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT). In Tilburg I have worked voor several national and European projects:- Tilburg Internet Law Library- Caselex- Breaking Barriers to eGovernment- Ruimte voor geo-informatie- Enabling Electronic Commerce- eBusiness Lex- Future of Identity in the Information Society (traffic monitoring, virtual persons)- Alliantie Vitaal Bestuur (geoinformatie, privacy impact assessments)- Versatile InfoRmation Toolkit for end-Users oriented Open Sources explOitation- Cloud computing in het onderwijsAt present I am senior advisor Law & ICT at the Dutch Council for the judiciary. At the council I work on the digitalisation of judicial cooperation in Europe and on compliancy with AI rules.I am also part-time chief executive officer at Legal Net Services and Recht.nl. The first company is specialised in providing advice in the fields of Law and ICT. The second is a Dutch Internet portal for lawyers. I am also member of the board of the Stichting OpenRecht. This association is developing a platform for open access legal texts (comments, articles, papers). I work as a project manager for the platform.I am an author and editor of several publications in the fields of ICT and law both online and offline.For 20 years (until 2018) I was a member of the board of editors of Computerrecht, the leading Dutch magazine on Law and Technology. I am also a member of the board of editors of the Leidraad voor juridische auteurs. The latter is a booklet on how to refer to online and offline legal information sources.
