Along with two partners I devised and produced several successful business conferences in Lincoln, each attracting over 300 delegates and big-hitting speakers from all around the globe. We levered social media and blazed the trail for the modern digitised conference with live-streaming, tweet walls and our event hashtag even secured the number one spot on Twitter during the events. We worked in close partnership with key local stakeholders, enterprises, as well as local government and the University of Lincoln.The events revolutionised local business conferences, and our successful format proved inspirational to many other event producers.I am particularly proud of the performance of the Lincoln University students who worked with us on our ‘Event Amplification Dream Team’. So many of them have gone on to enjoy brilliant media careers. Some of them getting their first break via job offers from the sponsors and partners they worked with at our events. All of them being inspired by seeing innovative and successful approaches to their chosen career.

I enjoyed a varied, rewarding and exciting career as a writer, journalist, photographer, editor and press officerStarting as a motorcycle road tester and a features writer and product reviewer. After two years as a staff writer and deputy editor, I became magazine editor at the Yorkshire Post’s national consumer magazine ‘Biker’. I then pivoted to sports reporting, where I worked for websites and magazines, as well as in race team and sponsorship PR. I travelled with the action-packed World Superbike series as a full-time access-all-areas pass-holding race reporter. I was official team PR for Honda Racing in both WSS and WSB, and was Honda Racing’s press writer at the British Touring Car Championship. As a journalist my words and photographs were widely syndicated in magazines across the globe, and I was retained by several individual racers, teams and manufacturers to produce content for them. My freelance clients included Sky, Harley Davidson, Ducati, Honda, Yokohama, Michelin and Indesit. I became involved in digital from the start, I was the first European Editor appointed at motorcycle.com - which at the time the biggest motorcycle publication in the world by readership. I established my own motorcycle news website in the 90s, and my content was published digitally worldwide - all before the fireworks heralded in the new millennium in 2000I appeared on television for Sky and Eurosport as a pit lane reporter and pundit, and enjoyed a flirt with international name and fame when I co-presented a Top Gear spin off. I attended a Top Gear screen test and was short-listed for a presenter's role, only missing out on the role to James May!

I initially worked for a major London courier company as a motorcycle messenger, but went on to form my own same-day delivery company - TT Express. Starting with just £50 capital and an old motorcycle, I built up the firm from a local one man challenger brand to a thriving concern with blue chip customers including Babcock International, Rover Cars, Geest PLC and British Steel. Three years after formation TT Express had up to 25 drivers on the UK’s road at any one time, serving customers with a 24 hour, always on service.I sold the company to a local competitor to focus on my career as a journalist.

Working artist by commission. Although I am a pretty good artist, I'll admit that my sales skills - and sheer effort - probably contributed more to my success than my artistic abilities. I footslogged from door to door to secure commissions. Completed and sold several hundred watercolours and pen & ink drawings during this phase of my career.

Worked in the data room with IBM 370 mainframes.

Learned a lot about business and finance, which helped me greatly as a company founder / owner and a freelance later in my career - especially from the two years of Business Studies / Banking Training which included Economics, Accounting, Finance and general computing.
