•Management of environmental services across the business unit in terms of the relevant environmental legislations •Incorporate legal and policy requirements in the setting of targets and objectives.•Development and roll out a strategy for continually improvement focusing on significant environmental impacts in line with the corporate strategy.•Ensure mine’s legal compliance towards various environmental laws.•Initiate the review of the legal information. •Ensure compliance with the conditions stipulated in all Environmental authorizations.•Communicate any new environmental legislation with important implications to the mine. Ensure that the EMS is implemented and maintained in accordance with the international standard ISO 14001:2004.•Develop and maintain environmental policies and procedures, and ensuring that they are implemented and remain current •Monitoring of surface water monitoring, ground water monitoring, air quality monitoring, energy and waste.•Investigate and facilitate programs to increase environmental awareness on the mine and nearby communities •Conduct internal environmental audits.•Evaluate the effectiveness of the Environmental Management Plan's on an annual basis and taking this information to the Annual EMS Management Review•Budget for the Environmental Department on an annual basis to ensure that financial resources are adequate for the up keeping of the EMS system.•Offer environmental advice to all departments on an ongoing basis.•Ensure that environmental best practice is applied in all areas.•Ensure staff receives appropriate training to conduct their duties assigned to them. This could be formal or informal.
