I have spent the last 11 years working for Reading Community Schools in Reading, MI. For the last 5 years, I have been working as a special education teacher, mainly in the area of cognitive impairments. I head our Mild CI program at Reading High School. I have provided modified curriculum for students in this program, teaching Transitional Math, Transitional English, and Transitional Science, as well as Study Skills. My caseload has consisted of both middle school and high school students giving me experience writing transition plans, working with community agencies, and helping plan and provide work based learning opportunities to the students of RHS. I am the teacher of record for all of our special education students who participate in Vocational Skills, JET, and other work based learning opportunities, which means I am responsible for the necessary count day paperwork and 30-day visits at each placement. I am also the coordinator of our peer to peer program at RHS, where I work with our school counselor to pair peers with students who are at-risk and may need a little extra support in their general education classes. I also lead our Peer to Peer After School Club to continue to encourage socialization between these peers after school hours. On top of those hats, I am also the MiMTSS Reading Coach, working with our School Leadership team to develop positive behavior and reading supports within our high school. One of my greatest honors was being nominated for the Hillsdale County Community Foundation's Teacher of the Year award in 2018-2019.
