Resilience is about bouncing back after a struggle. As a mental health professional who has worked with children and families for over 30 years; resilience is something I have seen over and over again. During my doctorate program I studied the concept of vicarious resilience and expanded my insight into how some mental health and/or trauma professionals thrive in their careers. Vicarious resilience is the experience of witnessing healing in others, resulting in personal resilience development. This is what has kept some in the profession for decades instead of experiencing burnout from vicarious trauma. Experiencing vicarious resilience is what can keep young newcomers to the profession healthy, strong and excited about their career. The Resilience Innovation Project will expand the knowledge around vicarious resilience and aid leaders in preventing the high levels of vicarious trauma that occur in our staff, contribute to turnover and bring low staffing retention. I am looking forward to further research and development in this area. You and your organization can be a part of the Resilience Innovation Project as we come together to learn, grow and experience our own resilience through our professional work. There is a clear process of developing vicarious resilience through four specific phases of learning and growth. These four phases can be experienced and shaped through supportive leadership, management and supervision. This partnership between professional and supportive leader is the link to ensuring the development of vicarious resilience. My passion to spread vicarious resilience throughout the mental health and trauma treatment profession is what has led to the Resilience Innovation Project. I have spent 30 years in the field of mental health as an outpatient psychotherapist, director, developer, CEO, COO, supervisor and thought leader in residential and day treatment as well as outpatient and public school settings. I am passionate about mental health in children and adolescents and strongly believe in assisting people overcome their challenges and develop strong, healthy futures. I am licensed by the MN board of social work as a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) and work with interns from many colleges and universities as well as providing clinical supervision for those pursuing their LICSW's. Now I am excited to bring the Resilience Innovation Project to you! Please reach out for more information and a free consult!Take good care of yourself, Leslie
