I have a passion for scientific communication and I enjoy educating diverse audiences. My work experience is multi-faceted, ranging from scientific writing and consulting for online resources to hands-on lab-based breast and prostate cancer research funded by grants, to training adults in a biotech business, and teaching university students. I have significant experience producing high-quality scientific publications and written/digital external user facing materials. I have mainly been interested in oncology and studying the association between diet and cancer prevention and progression. In addition to oncology, my areas of expertise include Genetics, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. Currently, I am the Scientific Trainer for new and existing Teammates for Horizon Discovery at the Boulder, Colorado location. I conceptualize, develop and deliver impactful scientific training materials and contribute to communication activities for new product launches. Our company specializes in tools and services for gene modulation and editing such as CRISPR reagents, gene knock out models, and functional genomic screening (a neat video describing CRISPR can be found in the link below). We also specialize in molecular reference standards for clinically-relevant gene variants that are linked to disease. My personal specialties include: Tissue culture assays (migration, fractioning, flow cytometry, MTT, etc); Immunolocalization (-precipitation, -histochemistry, -cytochemistry); SDS-PAGE; confocal microscopy; In vivo and 3D growth models (nude mice, tumor xenograph, soft agar); DNA/RNA (cloning, recombinant protein expression/purification, PCR, DNA sequencing, northern/southern blot).

Visiting Assistant ProfessorRegis University Aug 2015 - Aug 2017DenverI was originally hired on a one year contract as a Term Instructor to fill a short-term vacancy. Based on my favorable teaching performance over the academic year and because of additional vacancies in the department, I was awarded a Visiting Assistant Professor contract for an additional academic year. I had the opportunity to teach 7 different courses while at Regis: Microbiology for majors and nursing students, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry for undergraduate and graduate students, Molecular and Cellular Biology for undergraduates, and a course in Cancer & Cell Biology. I was responsible for all lectures and learning materials including the creation of flipped lectures. I also served as the thesis advisor for 11 graduate students in the Master of Biomedical Sciences program. -
LecturerNational University Of Singapore Nov 2010 - Jul 2015SingaporeI primarily taught a laboratory + lecture course called "The Cell" for an integrated science program and a general education module called "Genes and Society". I taught all lectures and laboratory practical sessions, identified and established the experiments, developed the protocols and associated written literature, and I hired and managed a lab technician who assisted with the practical sessions. In 2014, I began using a ‘flipped’ classroom approach for distributing the learning content. I also supervised over 10 undergraduate students for their honors thesis/ final year research projects while at NUS. Recent projects included developing chimeric T-antigen receptors and testing combined drug therapy for treating leukemia. -
Post Doctoral Research Fellow- Science WriterNational University Of Singapore Sep 2008 - Nov 2010SingaporeI was the first full-time scientific writer and curator for MBInfo, a wiki-based resource for the NUS Mechanobiology Institute (MBI). My responsibilities included compiling, formatting, and writing wiki webpages containing general and specific information for cellular processes involved in cell division, movement, and healing. I also helped hire and manage subsequent writers as our mass grew. As a wiki is intended, my original writing on the website evolved over time, however, I also hired and managed a team of illustrators and contributed extensively to the creative development and template designs for the illustrations, most of which are still in place on the wiki. -
Postdoctoral Research FellowNational University Of Singapore Sep 2005 - Sep 2008I relocated with my former supervisor, Assoc Prof Lawrence Ka-yun Ng, to continue our research on finding botanical compounds that inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and in vivo. We received a grant from NUS (June 2007-2010) to study products from garlic to treat breast cancer invasion and metastasis. I also studied a fungal product, pachymic acid (PA), for the treatment of prostate cancer. -
Postdoctoral Research FellowUniversity Of Colorado Health Sciences Center Jun 2004 - Sep 2005My research as a postdoctoral fellow focused on examining the efficacy of using botanical compounds to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro. I studied a fungal product, pachymic acid (PA), for the treatment of prostate cancer. This project was headed by Assoc Prof Lawrence Ka-yun Ng.
