The Frederick Arts Council promotes, supports and advocates the arts in Frederick County, Maryland. In addition to my board responsibilities, my primary emphasis was community development and fundraising. I attended many community events to get the word out about the collaborative work and possibilities of the Arts Council. I co-chaired the Festival of Greens for 5 years. This involved event planning, marketing to get the word out, organizing community participation and coordinating volunteers. The Festival raised more than $10,000 annually and brought together artists, community members, businesses and non profit organizations in a shared artistic/community holiday event.

LFC explores high-priority and emerging local issues, as well as elements of community leadership. Develops, connects and empowers leaders for positions of community & public service. As part of the 9 month program, each LFC member works with a team to serve a non profit organization. My team worked with Cupcakes for Cause/Moxie Bakery. The organization was a social enterprise that worked with foster children nearing maturity - to help them learn practical and "soft" skills during a six-month program at the bakery. This project ended up being life-changing for me, as it opened my eyes to the concept of combining education and social justice.
