It would become Pagemaker, the precursor to InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. As students, we had learned the psychology behind design – the way colors, fonts, and shapes work together to create a mood and tone – and for the first time, used a computer to bring it to life. It put me at the forefront of technology, and taught me to embrace it whenever possible.When the internet first became a thing, I was again at the right place at the right time: I oversaw the project to create the first website templates for the 160 publicly-owned power companies in the Tennessee Valley. A few years later, a client tossed several websites to me to ‘figure out’ the then-brand new WordPress platform. That one took a lot of late nights and more swearing than I’d like to admit, but 12 years later, I know WordPress inside and out.I started The Heron Company in 2001 – we restructured and rebranded in 2017 to become Heron Design.
