My nursing career spans 35 years. I graduated from Seton Hall University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. My first employer was the United States Air Force. Upon completion of six month internship at Malcolm Grow Medcal Center in Washington, D.C., I practiced adult medical-surgical and pediatric nursing at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. During this time I was appointed to the role of Staff Development Officer for my unit. In 1985 I was honorably discharged from the air force at the rank of Captain. Subsequently I began my first civilian job at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. There I gained my adult cardiac critical care (medical and surgical) experience. I was one of the lucky nurses assigned to care for the first heart transplant recipient in New Jersey. In 1993 I obtained my Master of Science in the Adult Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist subrole from Rutgers, The State University..Twenty-nine years of my career has been dedicated to various aspects of nursing and patient education. I have functioned in nurse educator and clinical nurse specialist roles, in additon to providing diabetes patient education. During the last 11 years my clinical expertise expanded to incorporate quality and performance improvement. I also enjoyed mentoring staff through my role as the Professional Advancement System Program Coordinator. My professional aspirations include obtaining a PhD in Nursing and writing a best seller.
