Credit card companies reward consumers with wonderful perks to get free travel, meals and rebates - but who gets stuck with the bill for those perks we all love to receive? Traditionally - businesses do. Many business owners have already realized it doesn't have to be this way and have implemented new programs to make things more fair for everyone so that those benefitting from the perks cover the payment processing cost instead of having non-card customers subsidize programs they don't benefit from in any way.Think of when you go to the gas station: card or cash are accepted options we all have embraced because it makes sense. Card costs more because of costs the gas station incurs by accepting it so the consumer is given a choice - pay a little more for the rewards and convenience of paying with a card at the pump OR walk inside, pay with cash and get a lower price. Another example - have you gone in to AAA to renew your automotive club membership or registration and saw AAA charges a fee to pay with a credit card now? This is the way of the future for many businesses that realize more customers are paying with credit card to earn those perks or perhaps due to having to put more of their basic living expenses on a credit card. Merchants are deciding they can't or don't want to continue to absorb these high monthly fees and want options.
