My work's main focus is on solving urgent challenges in climate. I have academic degrees through the PhD. in Engineering from MIT and UC Berkeley; years of teaching experience at Stanford University; industrial experience from Hewlett-Packard Labs where I worked on MEMS and Microfluidics. I've founded and run two successful consulting companies, MEMS Insight and SmallTech Consulting. Last year I founded a nonprofit Bright Ice Initiative to address climate change. (Previously I started and ran the non-profit, Ice911 Research/Arctic Ice Project for 16 years, which I left in early 2022 to start Bright Ice Initiative). I have taught a seminar class on Engineering and Climate Change at Stanford University for over a decade. Many students have said it was one of the most impactful classes they'd had.I'm also an inventor with over 60 patents, and I've authored/presented numerous peer-reviewed papers and technical conference talks at the American Geophysical Union and the like.
