Founder, MapWell Studio, a wayfinding practice based in Austin, Texas specializing in wayfinding strategy, technology, and user research. I'm fascinated by how we navigate and orient ourselves in unfamiliar environments -- and how maps, landmarks and signs can give us the confidence to explore and discover new places. My goal is to help my clients launch and maintain truly useful wayfinding systems that guide their visitors efficiently and effortlessly.Over the last 20 years, I've enjoyed collaborating with: • healthcare institutions (such as MD Anderson Cancer Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and NYU Langone Health),• educational institutions (Dell Medical School at The University of Texas), • environmental graphics, urban planning and architecture firms (TwoTwelve, Entro, McCann Adams, Page),• parks and trails (Austin Parks Foundation, City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department)• innovative software companies (Niantic, Phunware). In 2016, I launched the MapWell Platform, a digital mapping platform specifically designed for large, hard-to-navigate campuses. I have conducted research supported by the Sign Research Foundation and and speak at conferences (SXSW, SEGD) on the topics of wayfinding in environments as diverse as museums, hospitals and transit. As Associate Principal and Owner at FD2S Inc. from 2005-2009, I led the firm’s technology strategy and with a talented team, built interactive wayfinding tools for The Texas Medical Center and University of California San Francisco Medical Center.During my 30+ years at the intersection of technology and design disciplines, I've held leadership positions in strategy, operations, and content at frogdesign and Hoover’s Online.
