    When the pandemic hit in 2020, my husband and I made the decision to prioritize our family, leading us to relocate to Columbia, SC. Fortunately, my role at the Fredonia Hotel in Texas allowed me to continue working remotely during this time, which provided us with some stability during the uncertainty of the pandemic.However, in January of 2023, I received a life-changing call that I was being let go from my job at the hotel. While it was a challenging moment, it also presented a unique opportunity for me. It was finally the time to pursue a dream I had been harboring for some time – starting my own business, Workery Apparel.As a business owner, I've learned invaluable lessons. Firstly, my previous roles in marketing, design, and even my time in college athletics have equipped me with skills that are crucial to the success of my business.I've also discovered that entrepreneurship demands resilience, adaptability, and a passion for continuous learning. However, the demanding hours, often working 60-70 hours a week, and the compensation package made me reassess my long-term goals and priorities. I realized that I wanted a better work-life balance and financial stability. It was a tough decision, but I knew that staying in the field wasn't sustainable for me in the long run.My husband got a job at a small school in Texas, so we picked up our things and moved to East Texas where I would later get a job at The Fredonia Hotel as the Marketing and Public Relations Specialist. One of my primary responsibilities was crafting advertisements and billboards. This involved leveraging my creative skills to design visually appealing and effective marketing materials that would attract guests and promote the hotel's unique offerings.Overseeing the hotel's social media presence was another integral part of my role. I was responsible for curating content, engaging with the audience, and building an online community around the Fredonia Hotel brand. In addition to digital marketing, I also had the opportunity to design menus. This task allowed me to blend my creative talents with the practical needs of the hotel's restaurant, enhancing the overall dining experience for guests.Coming up with creative promotions was a highlight of my role.
