General Director Of The Institute Of Advanced Studies (Ieav)Força Aérea Brasileira - Fab Dec 2017 - Feb 2020São José Dos Campos Area, BrazilIn the mid-1970s, the Directorate of the Aerospace Technical Center (CTA) decided to establish the Division of Advanced Studies within the Institute of Space Activities (IAE). The primary focus of this division was advanced topics in technological development and pure and applied science. The technical-scientific activities of the division gained significant momentum on August 22, 1977, when the permanent facilities were inaugurated.The growth of the Division of Advanced Studies occurred at an accelerated pace, surpassing expectations, which necessitated a re-adjustment in its structure as the existing divisional level setup was no longer sufficient to fulfill the assigned mission.On October 22, 1981, with the new facilities ready for minimum operations, the Division was authorized to operate at the level of an institute within CTA, designated as the Laboratory of Advanced Studies. It detached from the organizational structure of IAE and moved to its new location at kilometer 5.5 of Rodovia dos Tamoios, São José dos Campos.On June 2, 1982, the President of the Republic signed Decree No. 87.247, creating the Institute of Advanced Studies as an integral part of CTA, as the term 'laboratory' was reserved for smaller installations with very specific activities.In January 2006, the Brazilian Air Force Command (COMAER) solidified its intention to transfer the Department of Research and Development (DEPED) from Brasília to São José dos Campos, to which the Aerospace Technical Center was subordinated.This change led to an organizational restructuring that dissolved the Aerospace Technical Center and established a new entity, the Aerospace Technology Command, maintaining the acronym CTA. General Coordinator Of Operation MutitiForça Aérea Brasileira - Fab Jan 2017 - Dec 2018São José Dos Campos Area, BrazilThe main objective of Operation MUTITI was to launch and track the VS-30 V14 Sounding Rocket, carrying the PSR-01 payload. The launch was scheduled to take place between December fifth and ninth, as part of the National Space Activities Program (PNAE) in coordination with the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), and conducted by the Institute of Aeronautics and Space (IAE). The VS-30 being launched is the 14th in its series and is manufactured for flight testing. It has been launched 13 times before, with the first two launches taking place at the Alcântara Launch Center (CLA), and the most recent in a rocket research and launch center in Sweden in 2016. The payload, named PRS-01, includes five complex and multidisciplinary Brazilian experiments: two from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), one from the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEAV), and two from IAE.Operation MUTITI also supports projects from various educational, research, and development organizations by conducting scientific and technological experiments during suborbital flights. Additionally, it enhances the operational capabilities of both the CLA and the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI), providing training to the involved teams and testing different systems for future operations. The CLBI serves as a remote station for tracking the vehicle and collecting/transmitting data from the PSR-01 payload.

It is intended to replace the U-Darter missile.Due to the arms embargo imposed on the Apartheid regime by the UN in the 1960s and 70s, South Africa faced restrictions on purchasing weapons. In the context of conflicts involving Angola, supported by Russians and Cubans, it became necessary for South Africa to develop its own military equipment, including air-to-air missiles. As a result, South Africa developed its own line of missiles, with the A-Darter (Agile Darter) being the newest missile in this line, in the final stages of development.More recently, Brazil became involved in the A-Darter project through the Brazilian Air Force, the DEPED (Department of Research and Development), the Aerospace Technical Center, and industries that would interface with the project, particularly companies like Mectron, Avibras, and Opto Eletrônica. On the South African side, Denel Aerospace Systems is the key company. The estimated project cost ranges between $100 to $130 million, with Brazil contributing half of the cost. This missile will equip the JAS-39 Gripen of South Africa and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), as well as the A-1M, F-5BR of FAB, and A-4BR of the Brazilian Navy
