About Lawrence Tweed

With over 15 years in international development, I am a Market Systems practitioner focused on facilitating sustainable, community-driven change across Africa, Central Asia, and South Asia. I work with various local, regional, national, and international market actors—including service providers, cold storage providers, certification entities, shippers, grocers, and policymakers—to foster relationships, build trust, and create proximity to new ideas. Through this work, I help facilitate local solutions that focus more on value addition, collaboration, win-win scenarios and resilience than maintaining market-dominance extraction and zero sum games. Feel free to reach out to explore opportunities for impactful collaboration.Professional Highlights:• Market Systems Expertise: Facilitated the development of mechanized services (e.g. power tillers) and irrigation services and connected these SMEs to farmers seeking services in Bangladesh. Managed USAID’s $2M innovation fund in Central Asia, securing $5.8M in co-investments. Focused on enhancing value chains and fostering scalable impacts.• Innovator: from pioneering and iterating digital voucher programs in Nigeria (connecting over 600,000 farmers to agrodealers selling quality seeds and fertilizers) to supporting the development of an ICT platform in Kazakhstan that layered satellite, drone imagery and remote-sensing data to help farmers and local governments make informed decisions re: planting and water resources - I embrace new technologies, generative artificial intelligence and digital tools and I am certified in Prompt Engineering. I am passionate about finding novel and scalable ways to add value and grow economies. • Data-Driven Leadership: Developed a database of over 450 agricultural projects spanning 54 African countries for a Gates Foundation initiative. Presented findings to African Union representatives in preparation for the 2024 African Soil Health Summit.Core Competencies: problem-solving, market systems development(MSD), international trade, business development (BD) and recon/capture, transportation and logistics and cold storage, prompt engineering and using generative AI to research, building strategic partnerships, project leadership, and stakeholder engagement. I am also committed to climate smart agriculture (CSA), and promoting technologies and practices aligned with ecological sustainability.
