About Lawrence Leung

As a graduate computer science student concentrating in machine learning at Columbia University, I am excited about the advances and applications of artificial intelligence. I believe that well design algorithms have the potential to drastically improve society, everything from automating away dangerous tasks to augmenting decision making over large scales.Prior to my enrollment at Columbia, I was a process engineer in the microelectronics manufacturing industry. The position involved cross-training over multiple areas of the production process. This allowed me to become proficient at identifying defects created in the manufacturing line, as well as have an appreciation for how the individual processes contribute to the end product.I leveraged this holistic mindset during my recent AI and Data Analytics internship. While AI is already a very powerful tool in its own right, it does require much supporting infrastructure in order to be deployed effectively. As such, I not only trained an object recognition model but also connected tools to manage the data logistics and data visualization.
