As a master's student I conduct research for my adviser at Ohio University's Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment. My research was focused on improving hydrocarbon extraction in shale reservoirs with heat treatment. For my research I had to design and construct a system to electrically heat shale samples and log temperature and electrical data at high accuracy and sample rate.
As an engineering co-op I was tasked with performing time studies and making CAD drawings for quality control gauges. The time studies required me to track manufacturing times using a stop watch and keeping track of data in Microsoft Excel. The time studies gave us a clearer picture on where production bottlenecks were occurring and adjust the prices of produced parts to better match their costs.

Worked in sub-assembly, machining, and tooling departments. In sub-assembly I used my ability to read and interpret assembly drawings to assemble complex systems together. This job improved my understanding on how parts fit in a large assembly. It also exposed me to many mistakes that engineers make with manufacturing drawings that cause issues for machinists and assemblers. In the machining department I operated a grinding table to bring parts to size within tolerances as small as 5 micrometers. In the tooling department I assembled the tooling used in CNC machines and learned about how tool material and length can affect the machining process.
