I oversee the research for various HR initiates for the university’s organizational development advisor, including changes to employee listening, process improvement, rewards and recognition, and recruitment. The research includes reading articles online, comparing VIU’s systems and processes to those of other universities, talking with people inside VIU’s HR department, and contacting other universities’ HR departments to set up meetings on their practices. In addition, I also job shadow various roles in the department, including labour relations, recruitment, payroll, and the HR associate, with an emphasis on labour relations. Key Achievements: -Support the organizational development advisor with changes to the HR department. Contact external stakeholders to get opinions on VIU’s needs. -Job shadow members of the HR department to gain an understanding of VIU’s recruitment, union relations, bicameral governance, payroll, and job evaluations. -Meeting with a professor acting as a learning supervisor to discuss learning outcomes. -Job shadowing various members of the HR department and sitting in on meetings.
