The goal of the project is to detect service degradation in the same way as users will experience it by simulating users activity on our web services while running outside of our environments. There are 5 “satellites” clusters running around the globe that run same tests simultaneously and providing results to central dispatcher service who aggregates results. When there is a problem that reported from most locations it triggers our Incident Management System and raises an alert. Also, each “satellite” provides screenshots of the tests, so when the test is failing, an operations engineer can actually see what happened.Armada project - AWS Fleet alternative, adopted for ECS containers scaling, with additional features. Armada automatically expands or shrinks ECS clusters to optimize the compute resources consumed. It continuously monitors usage for more efficient cloud resources for our clusters, resulting in lower cost. Armada is 100% serverless system running in AWS Lambda.

A big and long project that included the adoption of configuration management system (www.saltstack.com ), new deployment workflow and tools, a self-developed monitoring system based on CloudWatch metrics (because in 2014 there were no monitoring systems suitable for autoscaling environments). Adoption of using spot instances (https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/spot/) for online production service with automatic failover to on-demand without service impact (something that even engineers at Amazon were surprised that we are doing and our company management thought that I have gone nuts proposing usage of spot instances on online production ). The result of this project was that our environment scaled automatically according to the load. We unified our new versions deployment and new instances creation process to single automatic workflow so we were capable of doing any number of deployments daily and we had an easy rollback mechanism. And most important, Mythings saved more than 1 million dollars over last 3 years thanks to that project (combined effect of autoscaling and spot instances usage).

A member of Production Operations Engineers team – responsible for continuous operations, security, stability, and scalability of ooVoo production platform. Subject-matter expert for ooVoo’s product, platform, systems, and network infrastructure. Team work directly with system architect and R&D teams to design and support existing and new product functionality. Maintain all firewalls, F5 Big IP load balancers, and hundreds Windows/Linux/Solaris servers. Implementing network monitoring solution utilizing Zabbix NMS for all network devices and servers.
