True for humanity, and true for software development.Combining the raw objectivity of computer science with the abstract nature of human problems, collaboration and empathy seem to be the keys to sustainable and pragmatic work in the craft. I look for harmony in the professional space, certainly, but foremost in my personal life. On a mountain bike, on the soccer field, in the forests and mountains of Western North Carolina, and especially as a parent and spouse, the sense of satisfaction goes best alongside excellent people with comparable passions for discovery, growth, and the pursuit of mastery.In mountain biking, it is said that the best way to improve is to ride with people who are faster than you. I hope to spend my whole career in software applying this same concept, working with teams whose members pull each other forward, to greater skills, superior software, and a better world.
