About Lew Michaels

Lew Michaels joined Cinestudio in September of 2021 as just the third Executive Director in their 51 year history. Prior to that he was the General Manager at the Shubert Theater in New Haven overseeing the day-to-day operations of the historic 1600 seat theater. Prior to that he was with the Tony Award winning Hartford Stage in Hartford, CT since July of 2005. During that time he served as the Facilities and Operations Manager as well as the theaters Accessibility Coordinator. After attending his first Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability conference hosted by the Kennedy Center in 2007 in Minneapolis, MN, Lew had been managing all aspects of the theater's accessibility program. He played a pivotal role in the introduction of both Audio Described and Open Captioned shows at the theater. In 2014, Lew led a team at Hartford Stage to present the first Sensory Friendly performance of the theater's beloved holiday tradition, A Christmas Carol, in a collaborative partnership with Theater Devolvement Fund (TDF) in New York. This also marked the first time a professional theater in CT presented a Sensory Friendly performance. Lew is currently working on a state-wide theater consortium for accessibility. Lew was also the recipient of 2015 John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts award for Emerging Leaders. He also sits on the content planning committee for the annual Kennedy Center conference and has been asked to be a presenter the annual conference for the past 4 years. Prior to his time in theater Lew worked in Minor League baseball as the special events manager for the New Britain Rock Cats, a AA affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
