Kick starting string theory collaboration - photoemission collaboration & upgrading the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy systemMy time here was primarily dedicated to upgrading the experimental system and training the PhD student who would be using it and providing continuity. There was a strong emphasis therefore on problem solving and engineering, project management and supervision, though there was still a strong programming element through designing bespoke solutions to data analysis problems.Programming examples:These focused around developing routines to fit and visualise experimental observations from our image data to theoretical predictions from conventional condensed matter theory to string theory. - A cross correlation routine for automatic drift correction (e.g. from thermal drift) of camera images; - Multiple image processing routines including Gaussian filters to simulate broadening and tight binding band structure calculations; - Multi-threaded multivariate parameter search for optimising our simulations of experimental data.Project management: - Joint lead: EU tender and selection of €800k equipment - Joint lead: installation and upgrade of the whole experimental system - Coordinating: suppliers, engineers, academics, students and lawyersScientific research: - Numerous scientific presentations and technical reports - Vast experience programming image and data analysis - Organised and led numerous measurements at international facilities - Wrote multiple successful applications for international facility beamtimesTeaching & supervision: - Supervision of junior scientists in experiments, presentation and programming. - Taught 2nd year BSc physics classes with excellent feedback - Followed Dutch course to international B2 level
