I am Claire Lewis, a Sophomore at Colorado School of Mines. I have a passion for robotics that runs so deep people often joke about how it would be hard to imagine me without it. I started to love robotics because it was a team based and goal oriented competition. I joined my high school's robotics team as a freshmen, mainly just following my twin brother and his friend. Robotics was the closest thing the three of us could find to Odyssey of the Mind, a different competition that our middle school offered. Although for the first two years of robotics I was only sorting screws and picking up work others did not want to do, I really enjoyed it. Starting my junior year of high school, I was the one in the robotics program with the most experience as it was the first year after COVID. This put me in a situation that although I was not confident, but I was knowledgeable. I was able to take the lead with my team and that was when I discovered how amazing robotics really is. My past experience of doing unwanted tasks gave my team and I an advantage because I happily emphasized those aspects of the competition. I love diving into a complex problems, dissecting it, and solving it with a team. Ever since then my passion for robotics has been unwavering, and I have found myself in many leadership positions.I am currently the Vice President for the Mines Robotics Club, but have also started exploring robotics from different angles. I am now apart of the MIRRORLab, a HRI lab at Mines, and am also looking into other robotic concepts that are typically not considered in robotic competitions.
