In this role I have had sole responsibility over the maintenance department of a small medical waste processing facility. This means that I undertook all daily maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of the industrial shredders, heat treating plant, and boiler system on site. In addition to the standard responsibilities, I was also in charge of all planning, purchasing, and project management of the jobs carried out on site. It has been a rewarding challenge that has allowed me to stretch my skills as an engineer while also working in a high-pressure environment.

My main responsibilities in this job covered maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on large quarry machinery. This included working on hydraulic/pneumatic systems, bearings and rollers on conveyors, and replacing/repairing gearboxes. This was a completely new working environment where I met new challenges in the scale and location of the equipment I was working on. I also developed welding and fabrication skills, which allowed me to solve problems by creating new tools and equipment.

In this role, I have been responsible for the preventative, corrective, and troubleshooting mechanical maintenance operations on a variety of systems and equipment. During this term I have worked gained experience working on furnaces, overhead cranes, valves, as well as a range of duties surrounding the high-pressure hydraulic system running the two forging presses.I also completed a series of internal courses covering rigging and slinging, fork lift truck driving, MEWP operation, harness training, and acid awareness. In addition to these courses, I attended a course at Sibbald Training on confined space entry.
