Built, recruited and led a new team of data scientists and data engineers working primarily with Python, Apache Spark and Hadoop to develop pipelines that meet the growing needs for next generation business-embedded data analysis and UX tailored statistical production systems for economic statistics output teams using ONS' distributed processing platform. In this role I have worked extensively with experts across ONS to establish best practice in system development, agile project management and a strategic roadmap for a mature business application layer that will meet our needs for challenges ahead. A portion of my time in this role was dedicated to ONS' response to the COVID19 pandemic with ad hoc data analysis. In particular I supporting the rapid development of a new survey of businesses' experiences of the rapidly changing social distancing policies, economic turmoil and government assistance.

Developed new administrative data sources into our regular statistical production systems; in particular the use of business VAT tax returns to augment our quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data. With a particular focus on developing the statistical methods required, I worked on the prototype distributed computing environment (now matured and in use across ONS). I worked closely with experts across a spectrum of IT professionals, data engineers, economists and stakeholders to drive forward an ambitious first step into a modernised approach for producing better statistics that can support better decisions across the UK.
