About Lewis Compton
I am a BA Geography graduate from the University of Birmingham (high 2:1), currently working as a Graduate Transport Planner for WSP on their Graduate Development Programme. Alongside a diverse range of project work, I am social value lead for the Transport team in Birmingham, as well as an office representative for VIBE, WSP's LGBTQ+ employee network, and a member of the Planning, Advisory and Local Government Inclusion & Diversity Committee.Academically, key modules included Urbanity & Wellbeing, Urban Policy Design & Planning Analysis, and Geographical Information Systems (primarily QGIS with self-taught Google Earth Pro), as well as including fieldwork and research skills, and statistical analysis (including R/RStudio). My dissertation examined how well Voi e-scooters in Birmingham had acted as a first-mile-last-mile mode of travel throughout the pandemic, mixing qualitative and quantitative data and achieving a first-class grade.Alongside my studies I gained extensive experience in the youth and non-profit sectors, acting as a member of NCS Trust's Youth Voice Forum, regularly engaging with the Royal Charter Body's senior leadership team and board members, as well as stakeholders including members of Cabinet, the House of Commons, and House of Lords. In addition to this, I worked on NCS' flagship summer programmes across two years and in three locations as both a Team Leader and Wave Leader, taking responsibility for often disadvantaged young people and a team of staff. To support me through my studies I worked for the University of Birmingham's outreach team, helping disadvantaged young people in year 10 and year 12 develop skills for accessing further education and higher education respectively, including creating personalised curriculums for each young person.Outside of this, I am particularly interested in graphic design/brand identity, and current affairs/constitutional politics.
